 c work is the result of a unique commission from Commissioner Benepe t
 o document, interpret and celebrate one of the city’s greatest legac
 ies: the nearly 29,000 acres of parks in the five boroughs, including 
 woodlands, streams, waterfronts, wilderness sites, and beaches, as wel
 l as the more familiar ‘neighborhood’ parks.\n\n \n\nMeyerowitz is
  the first photographer to document New York City’s parks since the 
 1930s, when they were photographed as part of Franklin D. Roosevelt’
 s WPA program.\n\nAn accompanying exhibition of photographs from the p
 ublication is on view at the Museum of the City of New York, from Octo
