Healthy forests are an integral part of New York City’s ecology and natural areas compose approximately 11,000 acres, or 40% of New York City Parks. One of the key components of PlaNYC is the creation of 2,000 additional acres of forested parkland. MillionTreesNYC is helping to achieve that goal by planting hundreds of thousands of trees in natural areas of city parks. But these young, developing forests cannot grow and thrive without your help!
Every planting season, MillionTreesNYC engages enthusiastic, energetic, and environmentally-minded New Yorkers in volunteer tree planting activities.
Our partnership with NY Cares and Hands On NY Day, American Express Planting Events, Community Plantings, CUNY Planting Day, It’s My Park Day and other large-scale volunteer activities are great ways to meet new friends, beautify our parks, spur the creation of healthy new forests, and become active in your community.
