“Put Down Roots” – a pilot program designed by MillionTreesNYC to invite homeowners to plant trees in their yards. Beginning in St. Albans, Queens homeowners will have the opportunity to learn about all of the benefits of planting trees – better health, energy savings, community revitalization and increased property value – and receive up to two FREE trees from MillionTreesNYC.
On October 5, Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg and New York Restoration Project’s Bette Midler will officially announce this new phase in the MillionTreesNYC movement. We need your help (volunteers are 18 years and older) to spread the word, distribute trees, and help train homeowners in the proper planting and care of their new trees.
1. The volunteer canvassing training session will be on Thursday, October 8 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The location, which is in Manhattan, is to be determined.
2. Volunteers will go door-to-door on Saturday, October 10, from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. in St. Albans with news of the tree giveaway
3. And on Saturday, November 7, homeowners will be able to pick up their trees from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm at a central community location. We also need volunteers to assist in the distribution of trees and to help deliver trees to those New Yorkers who can’t carry them home themselves. (Please note, the trees weight up to 35 pounds each.)
We need YOU to make this a success, so please sign up today
