Okra!! I absolutely love okra. Cut it into 1/2 inch pieces and saute! Or bread and deep fry. It's a southern thing... :)
Is it in season?? Cook some for the supper club on Thursday! I love Okra.
Well, I got it here in Santa Fe (where I am visiting), so I don't know if its in season. Apparently, I am very not-southern, because I didn't do a very good job cooking it. Carolyn made it sound so easy, but then when I went to cook it–I knew nothing! Cut it. How? Long ways? Across ways? Do I take the seeds out? I had no idea. In any case, I made it up as I went, and put it in a stir fry. The fat light green variety were delicious, but the skinny red were kind of like eating fish with bones in it. Anyways, I need some more info or a cooking demonstration!
For okra... I cooked it about 10-15 times (maybe more) this season...

Wash it and then carefully dry it. It has to be completely dry before you cook it.

Cut it in 1/2s or 1/4s (long way), then saute with olive oil, salt pepper, and then add lemon juice.

Also add some tomatos to it as well for another alternative.

I stir-fry/steam under medium heat.

Sometimes you get a couple of pieces that are fiberous no matter what you do.
