The Solar-Powered Film Series Line Up:
September 16 Tapped
Stephanie Soechtig’s debut feature is an unflinching examination of the big business of bottled water. From the producers of Who Killed the Electric Car? and I.O.U.S.A., this timely documentary is a behind-the-scenes look into the unregulated and unseen world of an industry that aims to privatize and sell back the one resource that ought never to become a commodity: our water.
September 17 Severed Ways/Out of Our Minds Filmmaker Tony Stone brings his solar-powered work to Solar One for a very special screening and performance. Severed Ways is a feature film that imagines the fates of two Vikings who land in North America in 1007 AD. Shot on location in Vermont with battery-powered cameras, Stone used the solar panels on the roof of his father’s house to charge the camera batteries, making these the first solar-made films we’ve ever had the good fortune to screen! Using music rather than dialogue, Out of Our Minds artfully address environmental issues in an unconventionally interesting and powerful ways. In addition to the screenings, the evening’s events will include a performance from musician Melissa auf der Maur (Hole, Smashing Pumpkins) who collaborated with Stone on the multimedia project.
September 18 Vanishing of the Bees
Vanishing of the Bees
is a fascinating documentary about the mysterious disappearance of bees from beehives all around the world. The film’s aim is a better understanding of ‘Colony Collapse Disorder’ (CCD), a phenomena in which honey bees abruptly abandon both their queen and brood for reasons as yet not fully known. The situation is dire and only stands to get worse and so, with that in mind, the documentary examines all scientific and environmental links to CCD.
September 23 Fresh
Fresh
celebrates the farmers, thinkers and business people across America who are re-inventing our food system. Each has witnessed the rapid transformation of our agriculture into an industrial model, and confronted the consequences: food contamination, environmental pollution, depletion of natural resources, and morbid obesity. Forging healthier, sustainable alternatives, they offer a practical vision for a future of our food and our planet.
September 24 Fuel
Most Americans know we’ve got a problem: an addiction to oil that taxes the environment, entangles us in costly foreign policies, and threatens the nation’s long-term stability. But few are informed or empowered enough to do much about it. Enter Josh Tickell, an expert young activist who, driven by his own emotionally charged motives, shuttles us on a revelatory, whirlwind journey to unravel this addiction—from its historical origins to political constructs that support it, to alternatives available now and the steps we can take to change things.
September 25 Age of Stupid
Age of Stupid
stars Pete Postlethwaite as a man living in the devastated future world of 2055, looking back and examining archival footage from our current time and asking: why didn’t we stop climate change when we had the chance?

Each screening will be followed by a discussion of the issues presented in the films lead by local experts in the fields .
